Plans are currently under review for a large-scale agricultural project in Ward Belt, west of Gawler. The proposal, which is in the planning phase, includes the construction of 75 greenhouses over a 60,000 sqm site. These greenhouses are projected to produce 6 million kilos of tomatoes and 4.4 million kilos of capsicums each year.
The project would also involve the construction of six packing sheds, two 100kL water tanks, and a 12-bed workers’ accommodation unit that includes kitchen and lounge facilities. It is expected to create up to 100 jobs, with around 25 full-time positions.
The site is located near the Northern Expressway, providing easy access for transportation of produce. Operations are planned for seven days a week, with two semi-trailer pickups scheduled each weekday.
This project is being proposed by Le Assets Pty Ltd and is currently open for public consultation until September 19, 2024.
