In an era of perpetual change, small businesses necessitate robust plans to navigate the uncertainties of the future. South Australia’s Small Business Strategy 2023-2030 has been developed to address this need, providing an outline for adaptation, growth, and success.
The Framework for Success
The strategy serves as a blueprint for South Australia’s 150,000 small businesses, providing flexibility to adjust with the changing tides. The plan is composed of 20 diverse initiatives distributed across six major themes, focusing on:
- Building a Stronger Future
- Developing Your Team
- Navigating the Digital World
- Creating a Greener Future
- Encouraging Business Diversity
- Meeting Your Business Needs
Each theme is dedicated to facilitating adaptation, recovery from adversity, and capitalising on new opportunities.
Small Businesses: The Pillars of South Australia’s Economy
South Australia’s small businesses are integral to its economy, generating an impressive $49 billion during 2021-2022. These establishments and their workforce of 300,000 individuals deliver a wide array of products and services locally, nationally, and internationally. They are the risk-takers, the innovators, and the connectors—truly the binding force within our local community.
Insights and Inputs: The Foundation of the Strategy
In 2022, a comprehensive engagement program was conducted to garner insights from over 1,000 small and family business owners across South Australia. These discussions, interviews, and surveys have contributed significantly to shaping the Small Business Strategy 2023-2030.
At Regional Development Australia, we recognise the potential this strategy holds for small businesses. Yet, we understand that the evolution of these strategies is continuous and that the dialogue needs to remain open to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
