Regional Development Australia Barossa Gawler Light Adelaide Plains proudly shines a spotlight on the inspiring innovation happening in our community. Today, we’re excited to share the story of Deep Liquid, a local business revolutionising the craft beer industry right here in the Barossa Valley.
Deep Liquid, founded by Denham D’Silva, is making waves in the brewing world with its groundbreaking ‘AI-generated ale’ machine. A result of collaborative efforts with the state’s leading minds in artificial intelligence, this remarkable innovation crafts beer personalised to individual tastes.
How Does It Work?
After completing a survey on their flavour preferences, beer enthusiasts receive an ale specifically designed to tickle their unique taste buds, courtesy of Deep Liquid’s ingenious algorithm. It’s a pioneering venture that combines the science of artificial intelligence with the art of brewing.
This ambitious project isn’t Deep Liquid’s first foray into AI innovation. In 2020, D’Silva collaborated with the directors at the Australian Institute of Machine Learning (AIML) to harness AI in optimising the output of his craft brewery, Barossa Valley Brewing. Their collective efforts resulted in the launch of an AI-generated beer in 2021, which played a significant role in the brewery clinching the Champion Small Brewery title for the first time.
This year, the accolades continued as Barossa Valley Brewing won a medal for every one of their 12 entries in the Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Awards, including Champion IPA, Champion Lager, Champion Reduced Alcohol Beer, and Champion Small Brewery.
Beyond AI-Generated Ale
Deep Liquid’s newest invention, the ‘AI generated ale’ machine, has been a hit with attendees at the recent Beer & BBQ Festival.
From D’Silva’s perspective, the AI innovation not only offers a tailored beer experience but also empowers people to control their data. Deep Liquid’s work is reframing the narrative around AI, showcasing its potential to craft products or services that customers truly want.
But the innovation doesn’t stop with beer. Deep Liquid is exploring the application of its algorithm in other beverages, including non-alcoholic options. As D’Silva says, “We are in a region with great palates. AI allows us to process every review or comment about our products.”
Deep Liquid is a shining example of the innovation happening right here in the Barossa Valley, combining technology with craft brewing to transform the consumer experience. As we watch their journey, it’s a testament to the potential for all businesses in our region to innovate, evolve, and create products that truly serve their customers.
