RDABGLAP Chair Rolf Binder and CEO Jennifer Lynch attended a special screening of Just a Farmer at the Capri Theatre, hosted by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) in partnership with Primary Producers SA.
The event raised nearly $15,000 for the Rural Business Support Relief Fund, supporting mental health and wellbeing programs for rural families.
Just a Farmer is a 2024 Australian drama written, produced, and starring Leila McDougall. The film tells the story of Alison, a young mother left to manage a struggling farm and care for her father-in-law after the sudden death of her husband by suicide. It shines a light on the mental health challenges faced by rural families and has received recognition at several international film festivals.
The evening opened with a Welcome to Country by Uncle Michael Kumatpi Marrutya O’Brien, a proud Kaurna and Narrunga man.
A panel discussion followed, facilitated by Jess Adamson, featuring:
- Leila McDougall – Writer, Producer, Executive Producer, and Actor of Just a Farmer
- Libby Baldstock – Rural Financial Counsellor, Psychologist, and Farmer
- John Gladigau – Chair of Grain Producers SA and Northern Mallee Farmer
- Dr Kate Gunn – Founder and Director of iFarmWell, Clinical Psychologist, and Enterprise Fellow
Among the crowd, RDABGLAP CEO Jennifer Lynch and PIRSA Executive Director Jo Collins were photographed together, reflecting the strong support from both organisations for rural wellbeing.
