In an exciting development for South Australian primary producers, the Government of South Australia, in partnership with the Australian Government, has launched the On-farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme. This initiative is designed to offer significant financial relief to those in the livestock and permanent horticulture sectors, enhancing their resilience against drought and aiding recovery from natural disasters.
Eligible primary producers can now apply for a rebate of up to 25% (to a maximum of $25,000) for the costs associated with the purchase and installation of new on-farm water infrastructure, or for the repair or replacement of existing infrastructure. This funding aims to address crucial needs such as animal welfare during droughts, future drought resilience, and the protection of high-value horticultural assets.
To qualify, applicants must be property owners, share-farmers, or lessees in the livestock grazing or horticulture industries, registered as a primary producer with the ATO, and have their business and property located in South Australia.
The scheme is open for applications from 8 December 2023 until 30 April 2024, or until the allocated $8 million funding is exhausted. This is a call to action for all eligible producers to take advantage of this opportunity to secure their operations and prepare for the challenges ahead.
