The Light Regional Council has greenlit the construction of a new medical center in Freeling, set to begin next month at 6 Hanson Street. The facility is expected to open its doors later this year, and is positioned conveniently across from the Foodland supermarket. This development is seen as a crucial step in catering to the health needs of the expanding local population.
The medical center’s design includes a single-story structure covering 450 square meters, with space allocated for three different tenants. It will feature consulting rooms for general medical practice, a pathology lab, and spaces for various allied health services. Additionally, a pharmacy will be part of the center, alongside ample parking for patients and staff.
Carlo Belperio, the project’s developer, expressed optimism about the construction timeline, indicating a swift completion. “We’re aiming to kick off construction by early April. Given the project’s scale, we’re looking at wrapping up within four to six months, aiming for a completion by the end of 2024,” Belperio conveyed to The Barosssa Leader.
Mayor Bill O’Brien highlighted the significance of such developments in the growth and attractiveness of regional towns. “Introducing essential services and facilities is key to the evolution of our communities. This new medical center, alongside our existing healthcare offerings and the recent addition of a childcare center, positions Freeling as an increasingly appealing option for both prospective residents and those already living here, fulfilling a long-standing need within our community,” O’Brien remarked.
