Netflix’s new TV series Territory fillmed key scenes in Mallala in the Adelaide Plains. This six-part TV series focuses on a family power struggle over the world’s largest cattle station, set against the dramatic Australian outback.
Mallala’s agricultural landscapes provided an essential rural backdrop, showcasing the region’s versatility for film productions. While the series is set in the outback, Mallala was chosen for its accessible and scenic farmland, and close proximity to metropolitan Adelaide, demonstrating the range of settings available across the Barossa, Gawler, Light and Adelaide Plains region.
The production employed 236 South Australians, including 86 crew members and 150 extras, benefiting local SA businesses and creating new opportunities within the community.
Mallala’s agricultural landscapes, along with the broader RDABGLAP region’s diverse locations, offer filmmakers unique settings close to Adelaide – from the Barossa Valley’s vineyards to Gawler’s heritage sites. Productions like ‘Territory’ not only bring visibility but also provide economic benefits to local communities. As South Australia continues to attract high-profile productions, RDABGLAP is keen to play its part in the state’s growing film industry, with Mallala in The Adelaide Plains standing out as a prime example of the region’s potential – Leonie Boothby, CEO of Regional Development Australia Barossa Gawler Light Adelaide Plains.
