October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, an annual reminder for all Australians to stay secure online. This year, the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC) promotes the theme, “Cyber security is everyone’s business.”
Protecting oneself online is crucial, whether for individuals or businesses. Throughout October, the focus will be on four simple steps to enhance cyber security:
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- Install software updates as soon as they’re available
- Use strong and unique passphrases
- Recognise and report phishing scams
Reports show a 13% increase in cybercrime, with one incident reported every 7 minutes. Implementing these simple measures can make a significant impact on safety.
