Katie Lester started Home-Maid Helpers in 2017, initially seeking private clients before finding locally based in-home aged care provider, Country Home Services.
Since then, 75% of her clients have been either older people or NDIS clients sourced through local providers who receive Commonwealth funding to deliver services in their own homes.
For Katie, it makes sense to work with both aged care and disability services providers. “It means I don’t have to find my own clients,” she says.
Equally as important, Katie is providing much-needed support for the most vulnerable members of her community.
“You get a nice feeling from people who are grateful for help and who may not have interaction with anyone else. Not everyone has family,” she adds.
Home-Maid Helpers employs staff on a casual basis under the SCHADS Award. Staff can choose how many hours and days per week they want to work to fit into their lifestyles. They may only want to work during school hours, making the role particularly attractive to parents returning to the workforce.
Home-Maid Helpers is always recruiting. The demand for domestic assistance, social support and personal care is only going to increase and staff are needed across the region, including The Barossa, Town of Gawler and Light Regional Council areas.
“People who work for us must be compassionate and reliable,” says Katie.
“These clients are our priority. Our staff build rapport and trust. We want our clients to know that we will turn up.”
