This morning, Rolf Binder, Chair of RDABGLAP, met with Minister for Trade and Tourism of Australia Don Farrell and Matt Burnell, Member for Spence, at Esilio Wines in One Tree Hill. The meeting focused on expanding the international reach of Australian wines, particularly targeting new markets in Vietnam and India, as well as reinforcing our strong existing trade ties with China.
The discussion began with Harry Mantzarapis, owner of Esilio Wines and former winemaker at Rolf Binder Wines, hosting a tasting session that showcased the distinct quality of local wines. This set a practical example of what new markets would experience from our region’s offerings.
Trade Minister Farrell highlighted the strategic importance of diversifying export destinations beyond our traditional markets to include fast-growing economies like Vietnam and India. He also reassured the group of China’s keen interest in reconnecting with Australian wine producers, particularly their love for Barossa Shiraz, which has been a favourite.
The leaders discussed how RDABGLAP could play a crucial role in these efforts by facilitating connections and providing resources. They also emphasised the support available through the Austrade’s Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) programme, which can help local wineries navigate and capitalise on these new exporting opportunities.
This meeting underscores RDABGLAP’s commitment to leveraging our region’s renowned wine-making capabilities to boost economic growth and create new opportunities for local businesses on the global stage.
