H5 bird flu has been confirmed in two migratory seabirds in Western Australia in recent days, marking the first time this strain has been detected in Australia.
There are currently no confirmed detections of H5 bird flu in South Australia. However, the primary risk pathway remains the movement of migratory and water birds, which may carry the virus over long distances.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) is our state’s lead response agency, while the South Australian Tourism Commission will actively engage with industry partners to deliver timely, effective support.
